Team Compulsories

What is Team Compulsory?
A team consists of six members for freestyle 1-5, and seven members for freestyle 6-10; any age, male and/or female. Skaters can skate over his/her skating level, but they cannot skate below his/her test level. Example: Skater has passed ISI freestyle level 2 cannot skate on a freestyle 1 team. However a skater has passed ISI Delta can skate on a freestyle 1 team. The team skates to music that is 3.5 minutes in length and each skater is assigned a maneuver from the freestyle level they are competing at. Each maneuver must be attempted two times by the same skater, and the maneuvers must be performed in the order listed in the ISI handbook. This is all choreographed by a skating professional and skating dresses and/or costumes are usually tailored to go along with the music/theme of the team performance.

Who is eligible to join a team?
Anyone who has passed ISI freestyle level 1 and above.

What are the benefits of joining a team?
The teams have separate ice time scheduled outside of the normally scheduled Silver Blades time, so the skaters get more practice time. Skaters learn the dynamics of skating with a team, and it's an opportunity to strengthen their skating skills, plus have fun.

How much does it cost?
There is a separate fee to pay for the extra ice time, skating professional, and competition entry fees. The cost is to be determined and is based upon the number of teams sharing the practice ice time and number of competitions entered. There is also extra costs for the skating costume to be worn during competitions.

How do competitions work?
Usually the team competes in 3-4 competitions per year. One competition is the local Findlay competition, and the other competitions are out of town - traditionally in Michigan and Miami, OH. There would be travel costs associated with the competitions.

How often do you practice?
Usually the teams practices once per week for about an hour.

On occasion the teams may perform for other exhibitions. Teams are a great way to get extra ice time, increase skating skills, develop new friends, learn to compete and work as a team, as well as have a lot of fun. Teams will be organized during the summer.
